A Mini Me in Your Talk

If you’re like me, you experience marketing noise. Lots of it. Emails you don’t want. Talks that fall flat. Webinars that don’t add value.

Nonetheless, I have recently encountered some top efforts. I’m always on the lookout for innovative and authentic strategies that work, because it informs what I bring to my clients. Look out for these in the coming weeks, my friend.

One example is from a BNI (Business Networking International) meeting and a mortgage broker was scheduled to speak. I said to myself, “Good time to have a nap.”  Ha!

Not so. When this jolly guy cued up the projector, a little video of himself started talking to us, a little box of his face talking to us from the corner of the screen, a like a Mini Me. Weird, right? Why would he do this when he was standing in the room?

The subject of the talk was online mortgage tools, so he presented browsers with rate information and all kinds of calculations.  At one point, the little mini video version of himself started telling him to hurry up with the browsers, and couldn’t he move him to the right side of the screen, so that the Mini Me could show everyone something else?  We were charmed and educated. The back and forth between the two of them was perfectly timed – so professional!

Their interaction had sleepy professionals hunched over in laughter, as he regaled us about his online mortgage tools. We all wanted to speak with him afterwards and we will all remember him. What else could you want from a 10-minute talk?
